To kick-start October Transport Month, Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, will tomorrow, Thursday 1 October 2020, join the Cape Town International Airport in welcoming the first international flight into the City under Alert Level 1 conditions.
The month of October is being used by government to advance, among others, the country’s road safety initiatives and to create awareness about safe, affordable and reliable transport systems for everyone.
Minister Madikizela will, throughout the month raise awareness about the importance of transport in the economy and encourage participation from businesses especially transport related businesses including the taxi industry because of the upcoming taxi lekgotla.
At Cape Town International Airport, Minister Madikizela together with the Western Cape Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, City of Cape Town, Management of CTIA, Wesgro and Cape Town Tourism will welcome the first international flight back to Cape Town under the new Lockdown Alert Level 1 regulations. This will be followed by a site visit at the new pedestrian bridge in Somerset West before participating at an integrated roadblock to promote road safety, one of Minister Madikizela’s four strategic focus areas for prioritising and implementing during his term in office.

The Western Cape Government is offering FREE ten-point vehicle checks by qualified examiners from Saturday, 23 March to Thursday, 28 March at venues in Cape Town and Drakenstein.
